Default Folder X 5.0b6 – Happy with the progress!

It seems like it’s taking forever (at least to me), but there are a lot of good changes in the latest beta (5.0b6) which I just posted at http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/beta.html

Older Carbon apps will no longer always start in your Documents folder, the Finder-click feature once again allows you to click on the Desktop as well as on Finder windows, and there are significant improvements in several areas that speed things up and make Default Folder X more reliable.

My bug list has gotten much shorter, and there are only a few features missing now – yay!

Thanks for all the feedback (both positive and negative) and all your support. Please let me know if you run into any problems with 5.0b6!

    Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks so much for your hard work on this wonderful software. It makes such a difference to the whole experience of using a Mac. Really appreciate it.

I really appreciate the work you’re doing for the excellent software. Thank you!
Me and my Mac waiting calmly. Good job.

I’ve used Default Folder for years, though I find that I only really use the “click-on-finder-window” when I save files. While I appreciate all the hard work being done on DF, I find that it is a bit slow and a wee bit clunky now and has a host of features I just don’t use.
So I hate to say this, but is there some other mini-app out there that has the “click-on-finder-window” for save dialogues out there?

I’m not aware of any, and would be surprised if someone else went through all this pain to make that single feature work (most of Default Folder X’s internals are needed just to make that one feature work).

I just downloaded the beta version, and it seems to be working great. The new UI looks great, and main functionalities are working well. I’ve used Default Folder X for years. Unless Apple one day decides to build similar functions in the Mac OS Finder, I can’t image working on a Mac without this little app. After El Capitan upgrade on my Mac and the old DF X broke, it had been a major draw back working without it – until today!

Many thanks for your hard work, Jon.

Thanks for removing the files in the save menus… That was driving me nuts 🙂

Hadn’t noticed that there were betas of 5.0 available until now, so promptly downloaded to try it out. A while ago I requested support for accessing different Finder tabs which according to the release notes is supposed to be implemented now, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how it is supposed to work. Help?

    • Jon says:

All of the tabs are listed in the Finder Window menu. And as of the b13 build, you can right-click (control-click) on the shadow of a Finder window to get a contextual menu with the contents of all tabs shown in that window.
