Default Folder X 5 public beta tomorrow!

So I just finished the preference file conversion – version 5 now imports your settings, favorites and default folders from version 4. It was surprisingly gratifying to get that done, I guess because I’ve been dreading doing it for a while. Converting data and moving it from one place to another is rarely something developers enjoy doing…

The current testers report that version 5.0a19 is working well for them (well, except for the new drag and drop area, which is still a work in progress). There are still some things that need to be done, but version 5 is definitely functioning well enough and is complete enough that I feel comfortable putting it out into the world tomorrow – at least with the “public beta” moniker to let everyone know that there are still some rough edges.

As long as nothing comes up in the next 24 hours, we’ll finally have Default Folder X up and running on El Capitan with System Integrity Protection turned on. Yay 🙂

Get in! I hate having a naked Mac 🙂

This is the best news I’ve had all year. My Mac without DFX feels completely wrong. I keep forgetting it’s not installed and think something’s broken whenever I open a dialog box. I’ll be doing a dance around the office once it’s back up and running.

This is good and timely news. I came to your website for a last minute check before completing the task, “remove default folder X.”II suggest you have an obvious link to this information on the landing page where your software’s “more information” button directs.

Awesome! I’d been using the trial for v4 for some time, but convinced my work to buy it for the three mac users here. We installed, and even though I told them it wasn’t going to work right away, it’s still going to be a relief to get a functioning version into their hands.

Thanks for all the updates and hard work!

Yay! Love playing with betas 😉

I use Default folder almost every minute of my working day. Is it possible to be a Beta tester?

Great to hear a DFX 5 public beta will be forthcoming very soon. From the information posted here it looks like a major overhaul to bring it to El Capitan. I’ll be happy to try it out on one of my Macs and give you feeback on how it performs for me. DF is one of those applications I just can’t imagine doing without. Thanks for all the hard work on this awesome tool!

The installation went perfectly. I’m on El Capitan, 10.11.1, on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. I’ll be using it today and will report issues, if any. I like the new look and the additional sidebar!
