Subject: Sleeper, The Quantum_bug, and getting a firmware upgrade
Sirs
I would appreciate it if you would let your Sleeper users know this info
before calling Quantum for a firmware upgrade.
- Quantum cannot be responsible for data left on the drive. We
recommend a full backup before making any changes to the
firmware.
- The firmware upgrade will only work on generic Quantum products. The
way to find out if you have a generic drive is to look for
the P/N number. The P/N is on a sticker that is located on the
plastic data cable housing. For the Fireball ST the part
number should read:
p/n ST xxxx S 01(any number) REV zz-z
Where xxxx is the drive capacity, S stands for SCSI, and 01(any
number) is the customer code. Only drives that have the 01(any
number) customer code are generic.
- Drives must be removed from any external enclosure.
- Drives sent to Quantum MUST be shipped via a trackable shipping
agent. I suggest UPS or FEDEX. The drive must be shipped in an
anti-static bag, must be packaged in either foam rubber or bubble wrap
and placed in a small cardboard box. Drives received by Quantum in
any other type of packaging cannot be accepted and will be
returned to sender unopened with no changes made.
Thanks for your help. Having customers follow these steps will help
insure that the upgrade process will go quickly and with as few snags as
possible.
Regards,
Quantum Product Specialist
