With Jettison, just close your MacBook, unplug and go!

"This software is a welcome utility! I can't count how many times I've closed my MacBook Pro lid and forgot to eject external drives first." - Marc Garneau

Or perhaps you've got a desktop Mac and keep encountering error messages like this:

If they're happening while your Mac is sleeping, Jettison may be able to fix the problem.*

* Because these errors can be caused by a number of different issues involving both hardware and software, we recommend that you download Jettison and try it on your system. There's a 15-day free trial period to give you time to test it out.

Will it work with my Mac? And exactly what does it do?

Jettison works on any Mac, whether you've got a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro.

It ejects external disks when your Mac goes to sleep, then remounts any disks that are still connected when your Mac wakes back up. You can choose what types of disks it works with, as well as exempting or including specific drives that you want treated specially.

Jettison also gives you handy controls in your menu bar to eject all external disks at once, and to eject or mount them individually when the need arises.

Technical Wisdom

Q: Why do I need to eject disks before unplugging them?

A: You risk losing data if you don’t. macOS doesn’t write information to the drive immediately - it often caches it to make operations faster. If you unplug a drive without first ejecting it, macOS may not have a chance to actually write that data to the drive!
